Pakistan – Traditional Jungli Karahi with Chapati

Jungli karahi is a combination of every kind of meat like mutton, beef, chicken, fish, quails etc.Karahi is saidto be the dish of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Pakistani streetfood are full with this yummy dish. This dish is very unique and appetizing. The aroma of this dish is very unique.this dish is prepared with mutton, beef, chicken, fish, quails and different types of spices. This dish is prepared in karahi.A karahi is a type of circular deep cooking pot. It can be served with naan, roti, rice etc. There are many types of karahi:

  • mutton dhaba karahi
  • chicken white karahi
  • vegetable karahi
  • balti karahi
  • sulemani karahi
  • hari mirch (green chili) karahi
  • koila karahi
  • tikka karahi
  • shinwari karahi

Jungli karahi, is undoubtedly one of the most popular kahari in Pakistan. Karahi is made by stiring the gravy.This dish is famous because of it name and flavor. No meal is complete without a chapati. It is a salty flat bread.It is prepared with whole wheat flour, salt, water, ghee.It goes well with everything.


  • quails 1/2 kg
  • mutton 1/2 kg
  • beef 1/2 kg
  • chicken 1/2 kg
  • fish 1/2 kg
  • yogurt 2 cups
  • tomatoes 6 large
  • onions 2 (chopped)
  • egg (hard boiled) 5
  • ginger paste 4 tbsp
  • garlic paste 4 tbsp
  • ginger (chopped) 2 inch piece
  • green chili 10 to 15
  • butter 1/2 cup
  • oil 1 cup
  • red chili powder 2 tbsp
  • salt 4 tbsp
  • turmeric 1 tbsp
  • garam masala 1 tbsp
  • cumin 3 tbsp
  • coriander 2 tbsp

For garnish

  • ginger (jullian cut) 3 inch piece
  • green coriander (chopped)
  • black pepper(crushed)
  • lemon juice

Method of cooking

Step 1

Take a karahi and add oil, butter and chopped onions and saute for 3 minutes.

Step 2

Now add giner, garlic paste and mix it on medium flame.Add the mutton, chicken, beef, fish, quails and stir it for 15 to 25 minutes. Now add red chili, salt, turmeric, cumin coriander and mix well.

Step 3

Add tomatoes and 1 cup of water and saute it until the water dries. When the water is dried and oil comes out turn the flame high and mix well. Now add yogurt and mix it again.

Step 4

When the gravy comes to a boil cover it with the lid until all the meat is cooked. Now garnish i with some ginger,blacl pepper, coriander and lemon juice.

Ingredients for making chapati

  • Whole wheat flour 2 cups
  • salt 1 tsp
  • ghee 2 tbsp
  • water as required

Method of cooking

Step 1

take a large bowl and add whole wheat flour, salt, ghee and water. Mix well and start kneading the dough.

Step 2

When the dough is prepared take small ball and roll it with the rolling pin. Place the chapati on the tawa and cook for 3 minutes each side.chapati is ready.
