Turkey – Traditional Cag Kebab (Meatballs)

This is the most famous cuisine of Turkey. Kebabs are so famous in the entire world not only in Turkey but Turkey has a large variety of kebabs. This is the most unique type of kebab in Turkey and the yummiest kebab. This has a very unique taste the smokey aroma is coming out of the kebab. This has a special way of cooking. This is made by marinating the meat and then roasted on a horizontal rotating long skewer and then cooked on a wood fire. The kebabs can be eaten as a snack or as a main course or as an appetizer. This dish is originated in ERZURUM.

People enjoy this at Sunday’s brunch. This is the best dish to impress your guests. The aroma of it is so amazing and the texture is a little chewy and a little soft. You can have a sauce with kebabs. Sometimes when we hear about kebabs we usually thought about round kebabs but CAG KEBAB has a long thin shape because the meat patties are put onto the skewer and then cut with a knife from the edges so that’s why the shape of it is so long and thin. Cag kebab is a little similar to doner kebab but not the same. The recipe of it is simple but the flavor is outstanding. You can add Cag kebab in many things like:

Ingredients of the dish

  • 1kg lamb patties (1 inch thick large)
  • 1 egg
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp cumin (ground)
  • 1 tsp coriander ( ground)
  • 2 tbsp red chili flakes
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1/2 tbsp oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 5 tbsp oil


Take a large bowl and mix all the spices together and then the oil in it. Mix well and then coat each patty with the spices and let it sit for 24 hours.

Now take a pan and fry each patty with 1 tbsp of oil. do the same with all patties. cook patties only for 15 minutes. When all the patties are fries take a large steel skewer and put the patties on the skewer.

Now take pieces of wood and try to make an open fire with them and then roast the kebab patties on fire. When the kebab fully cooked take a knife and cut off the edges and enjoy it with naan.
